- What is an "Expert Witness"?
An expert witness is anyone who is qualified by actual experience or careful study which enables him to form definite opinions of his own representing a division of science, branch of art or department of trade about which persons having no particular training or special study would not be capable of forming accurate opinions or deducting correct conclusions. The court decides who qualifies as an expert.
Practical Experience is not an essential qualification of an expert witness. One who has made a specialized study of a technical subject is usually regarded as competent to testify as an expert concerning such subjects although he has had no practical experience.
- What is a Document?
Most frequently documents are made of ink and paper, but in the broadest sense, a document is any material upon which a message has been written. Forensic Document Examiners analyze ink, blood, pencil graphite, typewriter ribbon, carbon paper, paint, copier tonerwhatever is used to inscribe the message. Cases may revolve around lipstick messages on mirrors and graffiti spray-painted on city bridges, but most cases involve paper items like wills, contracts and medical histories, diaries, invoices, checks, and real estate matters.
